Description: CallCenter is a brilliantly designed program that will take care of all your faxing needs. The central interface is very attractive and very easy to use. There is a full-featured dial pad that has all the buttons that your ordinary phone has -- from the basic numbers to the Flash and Hold buttons. There are a couple of separate components that are all run from the main CallCenter interface. There is also a cover page creator that you can run from the Start Menu. The Workspace can be laid out in novice or advanced modes, depending on your familiarity with such programs. CallCenter has more than just faxing capabilities. If your modem is voice-compatible, you can make use of the voice mail features. Recording your answering machine message is simple, and so is the replaying of recorded messages.

Interscope BlackBox 2.1

Description: Interscope BlackBox provides users with the ability to encrypt and decrypt files with two simple mouse clicks. After installing BlackBox you can easily encrypt files by right-clicking the file or directory and selecting Encrypt from the menu. The program uses 56-bit DES (Data Encryption Standard) in ECB and CBC modes. It also features an alternative encryption method for faster operation and the option to encrypt files multiple times. There is an options menu which lets you set the way your files should be encrypted; such as encryption into self-extracting archives. This same options menu also lets you configure the desktop shredder, which can be accessed from the SendTo menu after right-clicking a file. This shredder is the perfect way to remove all traces of any files.

LiquidFX Professional 4.5

Description: LiquidFX is a complete Web design package that makes the task of designing complicated Web pages easier. Features include integrated frame, table, form, and list designers; an image map editor; Java applet support and more. The main interface consists of numerous buttons and menus at the top, a directory tree to the left for finding files to use in your page, and then the rest of the screen is taken up by the HTML code. This code, like many HTML editors, can be edited more easily with the use of syntax colour highlighting which distinguishes tags from the text to be displayed. There is support for ActiveX, but the options to create buttons, tickers and the like are not available to unregistered users.

Net Vampire 3.3

Description: Net Vampire is a very useful program that allows you to set up specific downloading jobs to be performed at specific times. Files can be downloaded via FTP or HTTP. To set up, all you have to do is enter all the important details; which can be difficult if you don't know exactly what you are doing. Read the help file and you'll be right. Net Vampire resumes broken connections and restarts downloads at the current position for both FTP and Web servers. You can even use multiple downloading locations for the file and switch between them. Long-term site statistics can be compiled, which helps in choosing the best locations to download from if you regularly download files. A built-in search engine can find files on both FTP and HTTP servers. Then all the found links can be added to the main Job list. Upon job completion, Net Vampire can run a virus checker, open the received file, disconnect the modem, or shut down the computer.

PowerPro 1.9

Description: PowerPro may simply be a small command bar that sits in the taskbar or floats on the desktop, but it boasts so many useful features. All Windows users can make use of these features, from the small button bars that provide instant access to files and programs, to the activation of commands using a combination of mouse movements. On running the program for the first time, you are walked through a configuration wizard that assists you set up the command bar, keyboard shortcuts and other options. The default command bar is made up of a time and date display, a command menu with quick windows Restart and Shut Down functions, a file menu that displays the contents of your desktop or loads Explorer, depending on what mouse button you press. There is also an edit menu that can load up Notepad, Wordpad or SysEdit, and a general menu with quite a few options.

ScreenTaker 2.1

Description: As its name suggests, ScreenTaker is a screen-capturing utility. Once configured with a variety of keyboard shortcuts, it is very easy to use. It can be configured to take a snapshot of the entire screen, the active window, or the client area of the top window (ie., the top window without frame and title bar). It is also possible to capture an arbitrary rectangle or a rectangle with a predefined size. You can have a Save As dialog box appear every time you capture an image, and have all images saved to the same folder. Image formats that are supported include BMP, JPEG, PCX, TGA, and TIFF. ScreenTaker runs from the System Tray and can be easily started with a right-click. The only drawback that could exist is if you can't remember what the different keyboard shortcuts are.

The ThumbNailer 5.5

Description: The ThumbNailer allows users to create directories of thumbnail images quickly. All you have to do is enter the directory path of the images that you want thumbnails created for, and enter the destination folder. The size of the thumbnails can be set and there are numerous resizing options for images that don't fit perfectly into the thumbnail scale. The format of the thumbnail images can be JPEG, BMP, TIFF, PCX, GIF, or PNG files in 24-bit, 8-bit, and greyscale. ThumbNailer also features many image-enhancement options, including sharpening, contrast and brightness correction, automatic background matting, and text and image overlay.
